The 'CICI' Recreation Center is located here. There is an extensive, but steep, beach with adequate surf and fine yellow sands. Because of the beach's size, it can easily welcome hundreds of tourists. There are thatched parasols and lounge beach chairs where, for a reasonable price, visitors can spend a whole day of relaxation. Lifeguards are on duty to oversee the countless water sports activities like sailing, motor boating, para sailing and water-skiing. There are plenty of small restaurants to the side of the beach.
Playa Icacos is quite lightly visited compared to Condesa and other beaches nearby. Yet it is just a few minutes from great local restaurants -- Fersato's is my favorite. The water can have a strong undertow at times, when even in shallow water you can lose your balance. So be careful. Waves tend to be gentler in the morning or evening. The beach is quite wide and offers glorious views westward along the row of hotels fronting La Costera. CICI is just off the beach, so if you prefer waves and slides rather than sand, it's just $10. Two local hotels, both with pools, just a block or two from the beach (but w/o the need to cross La Costera) offer excellent value...Lisette and Brisareli...but don't tell anybody about these locals' favorites...typically I appear to be the only foreigner and I like it that way!
