Forty minutes from Adelaide, the McLaren Vale & Fleurieu Visitor Centre provides a lot more than accommodation and wine information. The region has 48 cellar doors which does not include the centre's own vineyard. A rose nursery, home-grown lavender, almonds and olives promote the region's other fruits. Information is comprehensive and travel and tour bookings can be made here. Ask about local wine and food festivals, which seem to happen regularly - and for any excuse! There are also camel tours of the wineries, if you can cope with the humps! If all this exhausts you, a wine-bar and cafe provide the grape and refreshment.
