Overview

Good King René had this magnificent monument constructed in 1472; in 1985 the building was restored. The medieval monument you can admire today is mainly the work of contractors who, with simple materials, knew how to bring this magical place back to life. It has 66 apartments with kitchenettes, dining areas and bathrooms (with terraces for the apartments at garden level) and it benefits from the neighboring swimming-pool, the Val d'Arc sports complex and the municipal tennis courts just a stone's throw away.

Bad serviceby Yahoo | 2008-08-29 07:00:55 |

I has been awhile since I have stayed in a 4 star hotel without a proper internet connection in the room. Anyway, a small technical hick-up can happen, right? And a friendly staff should be there to sort out the problem. Well not in the Mercure Roi Rene. They are happy to sell you a 10 Euro 24hour internet fee, but then refuse to help you getting a room with a connection or refund the fee. They simply tell you to use the 24h connection in the bar! If you cannot wait to pay 20 Euros for a breakfast and face an unfriendly staff go to the Roi Rene.

Our room was marginally clean. It had peeling wallpaper and paint. The bathroom fixtures were chipped. The people at the front desk were inexperienced and were not able to give directions or recommendations for travel in Aix or surrounding cities. I would not stay at this hotel again. The public areas were very nice.

Just okby Yahoo | 2006-08-24 18:28:50 |

Went on a luxury tour.. Tauck. Expected better than this place. It was just okay. For the money that I paid, I should have had something much better. But then, Tauck has really changed this year. Tauck is not as good as it was in the past. Dining choices are few and far between. Not luxury at all. Globus also stays at this hotel. Same hotel and meals at afraction of the Tauck cost. Next time, I'll chose another tour company that is truly luxurious.. not just high preiced.

Nice 4-star Hotel in Aixby Yahoo | 2005-09-06 13:01:49 |

I've stayed there 4 times over the past 2 years. Great location - within walking distance of everything in Aix. Rooms are not extravagant, but comfortable. The pool is wonderful. The service is definitely at par with other upperscale French hotels. This is probably your best bet for 4-star level hotel in Aix en Provence.
