Overview

Formerly a 16th-century cloister, this peaceful hotel, situated in the heart of the pedestrian area, is well worth a visit. The reception area is located under archways, the bedrooms are equipped with Louis XV style furniture and the private garage is essential in this area. This is a good place to stop and appreciate the old stonework and elegant architecture of this spa town.

Beware, if traveling to TGV train station from there!by Yahoo | 2006-06-10 22:51:15 |

Terrific location but staffed by odd, rude and uninformed people. Odd: arriving in the city I phoned to get more specific directions and as we neared the hotel was told to go in the wrong direction of a one way street. "Don't worry if you see any police", said she. At our arrival, the same person was beside herself with everything and seemed confused in general. Rude: we experienced the same rude man in the evening as other posters have mentioned here. As if he was doing us a favor gracing us with his presence. We had been traveling for over 2 weeks in France and this was the 1st encounter we had with the type of Frenchman that prevent some Americans of even thinking of traveling to France. Their loss despite what I report here. Shame on him anyway! He obviously didn't 'get' the meaning of a career in the -hospitality- industry. Misinformed: the morning we checked out we had to take the TGV from Aix to Lyon and drop off our rental car at the train station. THANKFULLY we allowed plenty of time since the woman in the morning (although more pleasant and not whacky as the previous day woman) gave us the wrong directions (and I specified the TGV train station, not the one located in town). She had indicated it was the very first exit off of the highway and it is not. A 20 minute drive at most she said which if we had not gotten lost, should be about 35-40 minutes. The other two had given us similar directions and no one was on the same page. Thinking I would be able to right a wrong, I called the woman from the train station and offered to give her the correct directions being sure to tell her that I was not mad, it might have been an honest mistake, just trying to help out for future clients, etc. She would have nothing of it, told me that I was the one who was wrong and that she will continue to give the same directions. Please keep in mind that although I have lived in the US for nearly 40 years, I grew up in Paris, am bilingual with only a trace of an american accent and only spoke French to the staff. Otherwise the room and its bathroom was clean and the location peaceful. My overall rating is actually Good (4 stars) for the hotel, and Awful (minus 4 stars for the staff).

Staying in Aixby Yahoo | 2006-05-21 15:30:26 |

This hotel's location is great! It is right in the center of Aix, and also right next door to a Calisson shop ;) The only issue I had with the hotel was the night staff-a very grumpy man! And although breakfast was 9 euros, it was worth it!

Average at bestby Yahoo | 2005-07-05 12:19:31 |

The only good thing I can say about the place is that it is close to the restaurants and cafe's. Small tight and cramped rooms. No air conditioning. Small bath tubs with hand showers. They had a dog barking in the court yard during the day. When I asked to be moved to the rear where there was no dog, the response was the dog would be removed at night. I agree with the previous reviewer, the front desk help was unceratin. Certain workers were helpful others acted resentful to answer your questions. They also made me change rooms to accomadate another guest during my weeks stay.

Provincial property in downtown Aixby Yahoo | 2005-06-07 21:22:21 |

I chose this hotel for my parents to stay during my dads 50th birthday. Upon entering the deceptive archway you are greeted with a beautiful courtyard and provincial property that instantly sets the mood. The only problem was the receptionist was having an off day and was not as polite as you'd expect. Overall i would recommend this as one of the best traditional hotels in the town center. If you get a chance, check out the nearby restaraunt "les deux freres" most probably the best meal in town.
