Overview
Enjoy the world's largest collection of Van Goghs, including paintings, drawings and letters. The museum also has a large collection of works by some of Van Gogh s contemporaries and friends like Gauguin and Toulouse-Lautrec, as well as a number of older artists whom Van Gogh admired, including Léon L hermitte and Jean-François Millet. The museum features regular exhibitions highlighting art toward the end of the 19th Century.Open Hours
Sa to Th from 10:00 AM to 06:00 PM, Fr from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PMI was disappointed with this museum. I love van gogh, but the museum did not have many of his most beautiful and famous works. Also it was expensive and the line was longer than I waited to get in the louvre! The staff were rude and the whole experience let me down. Frankly you can see most of the same stuff if not better in the mussee de orsay or the louvre. But if your not going there and love van gogh then its okay, but if your going to other museums you can definitely skip this one.
Van Gough has always been one of my favorite artist. I thought the layout of the museum was great. It told the story of his life through pictures. Great learning experience.
Over 300 Classic Van Gogh pieces of work. Famous well known paintings done by V G are cool to see. 1 1/2 hours is enough time to spend here. I think I paid 8E to get in. The museum is also near by a great high-end shopping street. Well know for Amsterdam, check out VG!!!
When you are walking through the museum you will be amazed at how many pieces by VanGogh that you will reconize. This is a real chance to see the detail that went into his work.
A great place with a wide collection of Van Gogh's art. However,I will not recommend this place to everyone. For those who do not enjoy art,it will be a boring experience for you.
- forget the museum, which is good and well-run anyway; where else can you see such masterpieces close up ? Soak it up!
It is a very popular museum, so it can get very crowded. Recommend that one go early and you will avoid some of the crowd. If you belong to AAA, bring your membership card and you will receive a discount on your admission. The paintings are well organized. It is a must see while visiting Amsterdam.
I wanted to hit a museum and this seemed like the logical choice. The admission was affordable at about 9 euros per person and I was able to send an email video of my impressions to friends and family via email from the museum. I realized - that I don't have a great appreciation for art, and really got bored wandering around reading the tiny placards that display the "meaning" of each painting. I learned some things about VanGogh and it was a very memorable experience - but I really needed a greater understanding of art and a stronger interest in VanGogh to get my monies worth... Had I had more time and energy, I would have taken the audio tour and saved myself some visual and physical strain of reading over a crowd of shoulders.
It is definitely an opportunity to see many of the collected works of the world famous Dutch painter in vanGogh's home country. Caddy corner to the Rijksmuseum, is the building quite easy to find displaying many of his works - and museum entry fees are not at all that costly. Digital cameras without flash can be used as well as, but I'd advise one to clear it with the somewhat high strung museum guards before shooting. Otherwise, be prepared to be yelled at. If you don't mind crowds, you really can mingle through them to get up close and personal with this amazing artist's paintings. If you can, visit in the off season when you can take in a lot more with less pushing and shoving. I keep going back myself, as I love the works of this great Impressionist.
This is a place I wanted to visit for a long time and was worth waiting. Only problem is, now I want to go back!
