Vondel Park is lovely and alive with locals and tourists. Its the BEST place to take your bicycle to gain some confidence before cycling the city streets. On saturdays and public holidays Vondel Park is packed with people cooking barbeques with family and friends, kids playing and plenty of bicycles. Take a picnic for a wonderful experience.

This large, green oasis was created in the second half of the 19th century, and named after the poet Joost van den Vondel (1587-1679), a statue of whom was unveiled here in 1867. Today Vondelpark, one of the most-visited spots in the city, is a restful haven for citizens, away from the city's chaos. Come here for inline skating, let your children play in the large playground or have a cup of coffee on one of the four terraces.

Well maintained park, with a nice pond. Excellent for walking and relaxing. Very close to downtown, right across from Hard Rock Cafe. Public transportation right outside. Nice for a bike tour, as well.

i really enjoyed the park, it gave me a chance to wind down after all the activities in the centrum. am planning another trip in a year or so with some friends, can't wait the athmosphere is awesome along with the people.

The park is really huge, so it is a great place to go for a walk, but when we were there there were a few people who were stoned, including one young man who was going around intimidating tourists. Far more fun to go on the Hop On Hop Off Canal Cruises.

I went there recently after reading the reviews here.It is a great place to go to get away from the bustling and crowded city.However,I believe to really enjoy Amsterdam is to BE part of the bustling and crowded city.Go there but don't spend too much time.It is really near Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum.

great park i stayed at the atless hotell on the park you have the movie museim but behinde the musiem is a great hash house with a pool table opens on the week end late night

Vondelpark is the largest city park in Amsterdam, and certainly the most famous park in the Netherlands, which welcomes about 10 million visitors every year. The Vondelpark is loved by Amsterdammers as well as by tourists, and is full of people - enjoying a sunny day, dog-walking, jogging, roller-skating, listening to music, people-watching, or just lazing about in grass. Free concerts are given at the open-air theatre or in the summer at the park's bandstand. Other attractions are the statue of the poet Vondel, the cast iron music dome, the Groot Melkhuis with playground for children Theatre and music is played during June, July and August. The open-air theater takes place in Vondelpark five days a week, near the entrance from Eeghenstraat. The entry is free.

We enjoyed the whole experince. It's not anything like what we are use to in the States. Now when I think of window shopping I can't help but think of when we were in the Red Light Dist. Men are checking out the live merchandise right there in the window fronts. It's not for just everyone... Granny might not see it the way you or I do. It's just a whole different way of life there and just being able to have the experience was something worth seeing. There are parts of holland that granny would love. Travel thru the country and see the old windmills you only see as a knick knack all your life or the way they use canals to get around in places. I just loved the atmosphere of the country and would love to go back someday. Go with friends and share everything you can.
