Overview

A real Alaskan experience, this restaurant has scads of memorabilia on its walls and in displays. President Carter and the first lady once ate here while passing through Anchorage. Down-to-earth, friendly Alaskans - who are happy to share what they know of Alaska - operate this restaurant. Meals are served all day, and you may expect large Alaskan portions. Have your omelet with reindeer sausage, or a grilled halibut sandwich for lunch. Dinner options include barbecued salmon, and wine and beer is available.

        OK - I love Anchorage in general. The people are so friendly, the town is pretty clean, and just plain interesting! A highlight of any trip to Anchorage is a meal at Gwennie's. Go sit by the giant moose, or the bear. Spend lots of time looking at the memorabilia, and talk to the wait staff. Food was excellent! Great food, great experience. Take the city bus to get there for the full effect. Worth the effort!

        Warm and friendly, great food served in huge portions (too much for a geezer like me), and great atmosphere. This restaurant conveys a feeling that it has been an Anchorage fixture for a long time with all of the memorabilia inside and out - including a brown bear in the center of the room and a rustic, antique car out front.
