Overview

This is the only building in Arequipa that is preserved just as it was during the colonial period. Built in 1660 as a part of the monumental architectural complex of the old Society of Jesus monastery, its cloisters and corridors with high baroque-style stone arches display carvings and monograms related to the order of Jesuits, as well as gargoyles to carry rain water off the roofs. The lava-rock columns surround three large patios built in the Andalusian fashion. After its refurbishment, it now houses stores and offices.
