Overview

The east coast of the Attica Peninsula can be reached within less than an hour from central Athens. This area is the site of Schinias Beach, one of the most beautiful bathing spots of Greece located near Marathon. The major draw of Schinias is the picture-perfect coastal pine forest that reaches the water's edge as well as the fine sand of the beach. A number of tavernas cater to the needs of day trippers from Athens. Hotels can also be found a few kilometres from Schinias. The bus to Schinias leaves from Mavromateon Street at the Pedion Areos Park (the nearest metro station is Victoria). For the current bus timetable call the above phone number.

It's amazing!by Yahoo | 2007-05-15 18:35:13 |

I don't dislike anything about this beach, it truly is the best beach i have ever been to! I've been going to this beach ever since I was 4 years old and have been going for 14 years, never got sick of it! It has a few tavernas along it, some better value than others. The sea is beautiful and clean, you can see the fish at your feet, its shallow for quite a while so it's very good for young children and there are no really strong currents which is nice. There is the odd wave if it is a bit windy or a boat passes a few miles off the coast, but that doesn't happen very often. The people at the tavernas and the people who visit are friendly, but you do get your privacy. Overall this beach is good for anyone! Except surfers!

I love this beach!by Yahoo | 2006-07-30 14:05:18 |

It's gorgeous, calm, clear and shallow for a REALLY long time. My kid had a BLAST there. At most other beaches, he is really hesitant about getting into the water because it gets too deep too fast. But this is one where he could walk out and be only waste deep. He actually enjoyed the water instead of just the sand. Of all the places we went swimming in Greece, I enjoyed this beach the best.

Staff very friendly - food and drink reasonbaly priced compared to downtown Athens - beach soccer and volleyball available with staff so helpful thye will even lend you a ball. Excellent day out. Only draw back is that you need your own car to get there or get a cab - 40 euros 1 way which between 4 is not bad.

Maybe a beach that you will remember forever! The water is ideal for kids since it's shallow and crystal clear and the sand is great for sandcastles...and there are plenty of taverns right on the beach where you can enjoy seafood and Greek Dishes while keeping an eye on your children...

One of the greatest secrets in Greeceby Yahoo | 2005-01-30 20:45:39 |

Schinias beach is perhaps the best beach in the world for families with small children. The water is crystal clear. A beautiful pine forest grows down to the water's edge making picnicing a delight. The beach is protected by Schinias Peninsula and has no currents or large waves. Small children can wade a hundred or more meters out to sea and not be in water over their heads. Adults find the area perfect for long distance swimming without the tiring impact of fighting ocean waves. Other adults just love to float around in liesure chatting with their companions. Many sea food restaurants and water sport resorts are located along the beach. Parking is free and plentiful. A daily bus service connects the beach with downtown Athens.
