Overview
The best vantage point in Athens is Lykavittos Hill, which stands right in the middle of the city and reaches an altitude of 295 metres. Visitors will enjoy panoramic views of Athens as they look down on the Acropolis and other major sights. The hilltop—on which the picturesque St. George Chapel and the café are located—can be reached by foot, by car or by cablecar. The latter runs every 30 minutes and departs from the corner of Aristippou and Ploutarchou Streets in Kolonaki. The hill is also the site of the Lykavittos Theatre which overlooks the city. This trip up the hill in Athens is well worth it and should be part of anyone's itinerary! The cable car was nice (for those of us who don't want to hike) and the view was fantastic. You can really get a feel for how HUGE Athens is, sprawling out into the distance (similar to Los Angeles actually). 360-degree views to the mountains & ocean weather permitting. Great view of the Acropolis & the ancient olympic statium. The hilltop is also home to the chapel of St. George and a small cafe so you can take a break. Make sure you bring your camera or even binoculars.
Hello I live in Athens Greece at the bottom of this great Hill Not because it's my neighbourhood but even before that I lived in Athens was my favorite place. You feel alone? You feel in romantic mood? You feel in love? You feel sad? You feel religious?....anything you feel come and visit the place and look around you all the Athens city from north to south and east to west!!! Belive me is the unique place all over the world! Take you time and visit The top of the hill for breakfast, lunch coffe or dinner....or get your car and buy from the small kiosk something to drink and eat with your friends...your love or yourself!!! Don't forget after your visit to Lycabetus to visit Kolonaki for shopping or restaurants and why not...me! Thank you for your time
Loved the place, When we went up we did a tour of the small church (St George) before going to the restaurant (I am not sure I think its called HORIZONS) fantastic food and evening. The only disappointment was that they did not play any greek music for the background as I was entertaining foreign guests who wanted to listen to it. Anyway overall the whole experience was excellent. Would go again without giving it a second thought.
The most beautiful scenery in all of athens! You feel like you can see the world, and in ancient times, the feeling must have been multiplied.
The best view of Athens. You can climb or take a cab from Paraka to the top (10euro) and walk down. The walk down is easy. The views are breathtaking. Take a Zoom with the camera and you will get amazing pictures of the Acropolis
went at dusk, so we had to take the cable car to the top. two words: ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. everything from the cable car (my first experience) to the view, to the church at the top. Would have liked to dine at the top but it wasn't in our price range, and we were content with the view. Caution, was windy (we went in march), bring an extra something to throw over yourself, but shouldnt be a problem in the warmer months.
I can see Athina very best and Lykavittos is to best forme of can see all Athina. My God! Beautiful Athina! Filakia of: Lindamares do Brasil
Lykavittos Hill is amazing. I suggest visiting it in the evening around sunset. Not only is the view incredible, but you can enjoy a nice dinner at sunset. It is not too terribly expensive, but you do have to pay to ride a cable car to the top (I think it was about 3 euro). It is definitely worth your time!
i loved it because you are able to view the whole of athens and see its famous sites from that one point!! very very popular tourist site..people everywhere..tourists and even a cafer and church all the way up there! We travelled there by cable train and it was so cool and different! Took us a few mins to get up there. There's also different levels you can go to..cant rememeber how many but quite a few? Definitely recommend it!!!And worthwhile!!
Do not attempt going up here if you have asthma or any other breathing problems. Lykavittos Hill is more like a mountain: there are lots of stairs to get up to it and the marble flooring on the way up there is very slippery. However, there is a tram on the last portion of this hike that takes you up there if you can't make it anymore. Be sure to bring lots of water and sunscreen. But don't worry, once you get up there, you'll be glad you did. Also, there's a restaurant up there. Kind of pricy though...
