Overview
Outside the gates of Zoo Atlanta on the grounds of Grant Park stands a stark, white marble structure housing the world's largest oil painting, the Atlanta Cyclorama. Painted in 1885-1886, the Cyclorama is a 365° mural depicting the Battle of Atlanta, which in 1864 helped doom the South's fate during the American Civil War. A collection of artifacts and historical documents rounds out the museum, but the focus is on the one-of-a-kind centerpiece. Guided tours are available daily.Open Hours

My boyfriend and I went to see this painting, not knowing what it was. For $6 it was well worth it. The painting is 4 stories tall and the lenght of football field in the round-basically you get to sit and watch as you are rotated around to see every part. The guide was informative and the information historically accurate and impartial. Located next to the zoo, might as well make a day out of it! :)
I was totally unfamiliar with this attraction but needed to stay an extra day in Atlanta .. and found this gem. The exhibit was amazing, the staff friendly - don't miss the second floor - it has a few suprises too. The only downside was a family with small children who encouraged them to talk and shriek during the presentation - if your children are scared of the dark or startled by the sense of movement - better skip this and just head next door to the zoo.
The Cyclorama is a great history lesson. It brings to life the Cival War with great visual and special effects. A must see for all tourists. It's draw dropping.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Cyclorama! The Cyclorama includes an exhibit area showcasing Battle of Atlanta items plus the history of the Cyclorama itself. There is an 18 minute videotape giving background about the battle, and then the Cyclorama itself. Very cool! I highly recommend it for anyone interested in the history of Atlanta and the Civil War.
