Overview
This park, created for the 1996 Olympic Games held in Atlanta, has 21 acres (8.5 hectares) of green space, rock gardens and artwork. The nearly 500,000 commemorative bricks that make up its main walkway were part of fund raising efforts for the Games. During scorching Atlanta summers, children frolic in the ground-level Olympic Rings, which periodically shoot streaming arcs of water in time to the seven light and music concerts put on throughout the day. Flags honoring the nations that have played host to the Olympics in the past surround the fountain.Open Hours
Mo to Su from 07:00 AM to 11:00 PMI went there on a missions trip this summer and my whole youth choir and I played in the water show and got in trouble... if you go there make sure the music isn't playing when you go through the water! This was an amazing park, very classy!
I enjoyed the lights in the fountain at night and it was a great place to just relax with a great view of the sky in certain parts..
As another reviewer mentioned, go check out the Olympic part of the museum before going to the park. It's neat to walk through the park and have a calming effect with all of the "big city" feel going on around you. Great place to have a picnic after going to the GA Aquarium and/or World of Coke. At this time, none of the fountains are running because of the drought but it's awesome when they have them filled with water. There is a small playground for kids to play on. And an ice skating rink is set up in the park right now.
Go to the Atlanta History Center and walk through the Olympic display. It is great, and after you see it you will appreciate the park much more.
I thought it was a cool park. I like the whole design and how people just hang out there. Families having picnics, people enjoying their dogs and a cool little water exhibit for the kids to run through and play. I like the Olympic torches, but being from Chicago it cant hold a flame to Millennium Park. It is the park of the millenium.
All the reviews said this was a great place to take the family. If your idea of a great time is reading names on bricks, looking a grass, and a small water feature then it is great. I have a big green yard and a water hose that can provide the same entertainment. We whet to look at the fish early in the morning, and did think the park was useful to walk over the the CNN building for lunch then back to the World of Coke. Otherwise not much there.
The atmosphere of this park, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of downtown Atlanta, shouldn't be missed. It is open and gorgeous, not to mention interesting! We were lucky enough to be visiting in mid-Spring...when it is just getting hot enough to don those bathing suits and splash around in the Fountain of Rings. Vendors in the park are very pricy. It is easily reached from MARTA, and you can walk there from the Aquarium and Underground Atlanta. Highly recommended for a mid-day stop!
It's a park in the middle of the city. Big deal. The fountain was under construction. The only kewl thing was finding my cousin n laws brick that he purchased.
Since 1996 this park has been the best. Everyone must go down there for a walk, picnic or just some fresh air. Have fun!
i just went to aqurium that day, it was so cool, because it have hunderds of different kind of sea animals, i just couldn't believe what i saw, you know that was a amazing experience.
