Overview

The Saturday morning open-air market at Otara is already bustling as the sun comes up. Stallholders sell everything from fresh fruit and vegetables, to island music CDs and arts and crafts. With a decidedly South Pacific flavor, the Otara Market draws thousands of shoppers looking for bargains and exotic clothing and foods such as raw fish marinated in coconut milk or pineapple fritters. Access is from the East Tamaki off-ramp, about 20 kilometers south of central Auckland on the Southern Motorway. Arrive early for a good car park.

I spent the weekend in Auckland and attended the market - really enjoyed myself along with my partner and young son. People say Aucklanders are nasty but everyone was nice the deals were excellent and I had a mean feed of a boil up and some hot chips and a Bacon & Egg bun. Pork chops for Lyfe

Otara Markets is extremely suitable for the "shop-aholic". These markets are endless, from the range of clothing, Maori culture, bags, jewllery and more. Along with the shopping, the food is absolutely delicious and you can be sure to find a meal which suits you. These markets are a great atmosphere of New Zealand culture.
