Overview

The steps of this museum offer splendid views over the Cenotaph forecourt to the Domain, the city and Waitemata Harbour beyond. The museum houses New Zealand's largest collection of Maori and Pacific Island taonga (treasures); fantastic interactive discovery centers for children young and old; and the Scars on the Heart exhibition of New Zealand war history. A 20-minute Maori cultural performance featuring songs, poi dances, stick games, a weaponry display and haka takes place. There is an excellent gift and book shop and a café within the building.

I wish this place could get better...by Yahoo | 2007-08-06 04:03:22 |

I am an aucklander and have been forced to come to this place how many times for school trips. The first time i went it was ok not really that great and it gets more boring...they need something more interesting, and its a bit babyish. I think kids will enjoy this most. The most interesting part of the museum is the world war II gallery. If your in auckland and dont have alot of time dont waste it at the museum, trust me you won't be missing much

i like it ...by Yahoo | 2006-10-26 22:48:44 |

i was pretty bored when my parents announced that we were going to a museum ... but after i went in, i completely changed my thoughts about it. it was excellent! it has so many things ... and you can do so many things too. there's a special house in which you sit and you can see tsunami coming through a window (of course its not real). then the house shakes and the lights go out and everything is silent - its exactly how it would be; i thought it was a good experience.

Auckland War Mermorialby Yahoo | 2006-06-23 01:10:23 |

This place may be called the War Mermorial but it is really a museum and a cool one at that. You MUST go here if you visit Auckland its like seeing 3 sites at once.First floor is a museum dedicated to Moari artifacts & Culture. Be sure and pay the extra couple of bucks to attend the Moari Ceremony every hour where you are treated to songs, dances and the HAKA!!! Second floor is natural history museum dont miss the exploding volcano house!!! 3rd floor is the war mermoral which has exibits, artifacts as well as the mermorial itself.
