Overview

One part vaudeville and one part stinging political/social satire, this place has amused and delighted its guests, as well as the pedestrians who pass by its front-stage windows and observe its goings-on, since the late 1970s. A troupe of multi-talented performers write, act, sing and dance their way across a broad comedic map that pokes fun at our elected officials, celebrity icons, and regular citizens, and the material is constantly being updated. It is not all for laughs though; a magical act comes on a couple of times per show to startle and captivate your senses. This is a true downtown institution. Esther's Follies is open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays 8 pm onwards.

so funny!by Yahoo | 2007-11-03 19:27:02 |

Esther's Follie is great. We went for a show, not knowing what to expect, and it was amazing. The comedians are funny, well chosen. The acts are great--well thought out and scripted! Some of the things you wouldn't expect, which makes it even that much better. It's definitely worth the price and I would recommend anyone going there!!

We (husband & I wandered in one night and found some of the best entertainment we'd every seen. Smart,sharp,up-to-date and just flat out laugh your a-- off humor. I have personally done a rendition of the Patsie Cline song "You've Got These Little Things; props and all and got a standing ovation. You guys rock!

One of those things which is a MUST if you're visiting Austinby Yahoo | 2006-12-26 20:52:38 |

I make a point of buying tickets to Esther's when I have guests coming in from out-of-town. This is one of those one MUST SEE when visiting Austin.

Non Stop Laughterby Yahoo | 2006-05-17 21:33:51 |

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Esthers Follies! I have lived in Austin for five years, and I only discovered the follies last year, but I have been a regular there ever since. Every time an out of towner rolls in, that's the first thing we do. I have taken over forty different people and haven't gotten one complaint yet. I guarentee you will have a great time here! The entire cast and magician are, in my opinion, some of the most talented people in Texas. Definatley stop by, but I advise you make reservations, even if it is made on the same day, you will have a much greater chance than just showing up!

We LOVE Esther's Follies! Live in San Antonio, but every time we have out of town guest we make a trip to Austin for the show. Would highly recommend it to everyone looking for side splitting laughs. You will be laughing so loud you won't even notice the crowd around you. Got to give it to the whole cast, they are awesome! The way they incorporate the street crowd into the show is hilarious, poor people, yeah right! We never walk in front of the window to get to the show, that should tell you something. Thanks so much for a wonderful time!

Wonderful Start to a night on 6th Street!by Yahoo | 2005-11-29 04:43:33 |

What a wonderful place. Yes, the price of $20 a ticket seems a little steep. But trust me, its defenitely worth the green! The show lasted almost 2 hours and I was laughing the entire time (when I was not in amazement at the magacian). The humor they incorporate is very catchy, up-to-date with current events, and hilarious! If you have a knack for the stage, sit towards the front...audience participation is involved! Arrive early!! Get some drinks from the bar before going and sitting down for the show. This also allows you to get better seating since it is always a packed house! They incorporate the 6th Street on-lookers into the show and this makes it even better. It was a great start to a fun-filled night on 6th Street and I highly reccommend it to everyone! It will be my first stop when I go back to Austin!

Quite a treatby Yahoo | 2005-08-01 22:29:43 |

The magician is great; he combines comedy and magic so you are laughing in addition to being wowed by his feats of magic. The review is clever, especially the way they incorporate the street as part of the stage. At first you aren't sure if the people out there are part of the show or just more passersby.

I was like being in a live audience of MAD TV, but funnier and with really cool (not cheesy) magic tricks! It's therapeutic, so I think I will try to go regularly.
