Overview

Kuningan falls ten days after the Galungan festivities begin. This holy day marks the departure of the ancestral souls which have been visiting each and every Balinese Hindu family on the island. People make mounds of offerings in each house compound. This includes the shield-like tamiang, meant to protect all family members. Women making offerings fill the streets and many temples celebrate their festivals at this time. The festival dates vary every year.
