The Klungkung Palace was built by the Dewa Agung dynasty when the people moved here in 1710. The existing palace, called the Semara Pura, contains a large square with spacious courtyards, lush gardens, pavilions and moats. The palace that you see today is actually a reconstruction, as the Dutch destroyed the original palace and grounds during attacks in 1908. Stone walls with water lilies in the moat surround the very beautiful Taman Gili complex.i loved it all it was so warm and fresh. i wish i could live there.but i cant so thats a bummer you should go if you ever get a chance its awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Klungkung is a beautiful piece of balinese architecture miraculously preserved from the barberous dutch massacres of the early 20th century. The main pavailion, floating in a the liddle of a rectangular pool, is a miniature model of the cosmos and has excellent paintings on the ceiling. In the small garden, Notice the striking quincunx, or checkerboard designs made of alternating rectangles of grass and stone.
