Overview

Barcelona's districts hold their main festival in spring or summer when it is warm enough to spend all night outdoors. The Gracia neighborhood festival is one of the most famous in Barcelona. The second fortnight in August, locals decorate streets in outlandish styles, and there's a prize for the best one. They organize children's games, cultural activities, and dances to live music. Plaa Rius i Taulet is where it all starts with a parade of giant carnival figures and the building of human pyramids. Festivities end when costumed devils run through the streets setting off fireworks.

perfect fun!by Yahoo | 2006-07-20 13:44:37 |

We discovered this festival by accident 3 years ago while visiting Barcelona and have come back every year since :-)We love Barcelona anywya, but this takes it to another level :-) The festival is an amazing mix of (mainly local) people of all ages beautiful decorated streets, music, human towers, rum cremat (a drink they make by setting rum on fire and adding coffe beans and spices ... cheap exciting and it keeps you going) and fun, which carries on late into the night! Coming from England, we just don't have anything to touch this. If you enjoy fun and like to sample the real culture of a city ... this can not be missed. p.s the Sants festival is just as good too :-)
