Overview

Antoni Gaudí designed this palace for Eusebi Güell, his most important patron. It was one of the architect's first big undertakings and he expressed all of his original creative genius in it. It was built between 1885 and 1889 and shows early signs of Gaudí's desire to combine the structural and the decorative aspects of architecture. He made artistic use of the iron structural elements and introduced Byzantine domes made out of flattened bricks. Let your visit to the city include a guided tour that starts every half hour.

Great Valueby Yahoo | 2005-02-21 21:29:26 |

It doesn't look like much from the street, but this is a Gaudi gem. And when I went, it was also the best value in Barcelona at only 3 euros for a tour. The most fun is being up on the roof with all the tiled, crazy looking chimneys.

Great place to see Gaudi architecture. I lived within a block of Palau Guell for 5 months off of Nou de la Rambla, the picture above is Parc Guell, not Palau Guell. The interior is understated, where Gaudi makes his statement is the roof.

Great Mosaicsby Yahoo | 2004-09-04 00:12:01 |

The mosaics will have you aching to re-tile your bathroom, line your walkway, cover your home with colorful ceramics! I love Gaudi's natural forms and here you find some very playful examples. This large park is full of diversions. Well worth the trip up the hill!
