Overview
This is the first walkway you come to when strolling down the Ramblas. The kiosks sell newspapers from all over the world. You´ll find the Font de Canaletes (a small fountain) here, where Barça football fans (known as "culés") gather to celebrate their team's victories. According to legend, if you drink from this fountain you´ll return to Barcelona one day. You´re also likely to come across performers playing rock or Andean music surrounded by crowds of bystanders. nice flavor to the place. get out on the metro at the top of the road and work your way down. take pictures of the living statues, but of you don't give them a coin or 2 some will get angry.
The Ramblas is the opposite of a US street - the street and sidewalk are reversed, with space in the middle for dozens of pedestrians walking side by side and cars relegated to a single lane on either side of the lively "sidewalk." Walk the whole length - you'll see tons!
