Overview
Originally built in the days of Kublai Khan, this park was used for recreation by the emperors of post-Kublai Khan dynasties. The famous White Pagoda standing above the Jade Islet creates an exotic scene. It memorializes a visit by the Dalai Lama in 1651. Other famous features include the Nine-Dragon Screen, built to ward off evil spirits, and the Five-Dragon Pavilion. The park is enjoyable in every season, especially in summer when graceful lotus blooms cover the surface of the lake.Open Hours
Mo to Su from 06:00 AM to 08:00 PMBeihai park is a nic place to spend a couple hours. The lakes, temples, and walkways make it a very pleasant place to stroll around. There is often a lot of activity from water calligraphy, dancing, an boating. Grab some beverages and rent an electric boat for an hour, or climb to the white dagoba for great vriews of the park and city.
Beihai Park is a beautiful place. We went during Nationals Week, so that was a mistake. It was heavily populated, so that detracted from the fun. I think that if it had been during a different time, it would have been a more fun experience. Be sure to visit! Plus, the Hutongs are nearby, and those are fun, too. Get a taste of real Chinese life.
Beihai is one of the most well-built imperial garden in China. The plants and the architectures come together creating a paradise on earth. The scenes in the park are based on the view of Southern China. The emperors went to live in the park every year during summer during the old days.
this park is a really great oasis from the poulltion and traffic-clogged metropolis that is Beijing. beautiful gardens and a calm lake on which you can rent paddle boats make this historic park an underappreciated imperial landmark. go in the morning to see the elderly chinese preform tai chi or sword fighting or in the after noon to play chinese checkers, connect 4, or ma-jong with the natives. also be sure to visit the huge white pagoda on the pennsula in the lake built for the Dali Lama's visit to the captial by the emperors hundreds of years ago.
