Overview
This purveyor of both new and used books has gained a reputation around the Bay Area as a prime spot to search the shelves, relax in a corner and hear authors from all walks of life (from minor poets to national literary figures). It hosts readings and carries smaller journals, zines, magazines, chapbooks and the best of the small presses. It publishes small chapbooks and does broadsides for local poets that are available for purchase. The space is bright and open, so there is plenty of room to move. After entering the store and reading the sign notifying customers to check in all bags, I patiently waited by the front counter for a considerable amount of time. When it became apparent that I was not being acknowledged, I quietly entered the store and began to browse the book selection. After doing so for several minutes, an angry female bookseller (one of two who did not acknowledge me when entering the store) hastily yelled at me and said that I would have to check in my bag if I wished to shop in the establishment. I told her of my being ignored of by the front counter. She then angrily replied that I should have called for assistence. It is unfortunate that the event carried on as such. Politely asking me to check my bag in instead of an outraged confrontation would have sufficed.
