Hilarity, foolishness, vulgarity and full of orgiastic energy - this is the Volksbühne, East Berlin's last politically incorrect theatre. Astonishingly diverse, the Volksbühne is young, political theatre, a disco, a tango bar and a discussion forum. The Volksbühne is a theatre for the homeless, a cinema and a concert hall. Even though some say that the theatre has lost some of its initial vigour, others reply that it is better than ever. Director Frank Castorf and actor Henry Hübchen recently received awards from the Berlin Theatre Academy.
