Overview
Housing one of the world's finest collections of Pre-Raphaelite art, with works by Rossetti, Ford Madox Brown and Holman Hunt, Birmingham's principal museum and gallery is located in a stunning Victorian building. The museum displays works by British and European artists, along with collections of ceramics, sculpture, silver and stained glass. You can also find archaeological, ethnographical and local history exhibits, including Egyptian mummies. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.Open Hours
Mo to Th from 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM, Fr from 10:30 AM to 05:00 PM, Sa from 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM, Su from 12:30 PM to 05:00 PMBMAG is an excellent Regional Museum, housing a huge range of exhibits from all over the world and important paintings from Boticelli to Birmingham's own Arts and Crafts masters. I always find the museum a pleasure to wander around, with its continuously changing displays and charming Victorian and Edwardian wings, and allowing, and once you are done you can have tea in the charming Edwardian Tea Rooms offering a reasonably priced lunch in the opulent surroundings, which always reming me of being to stately homes as a child. I always take my friends to BMAG when they visit Birmingham and they always leave impressed and surprised, I could just be my wonderful company... but I think the museum has something to do with it too! Also for any Sinophiles out there there is a great Chinese exhibit on at the moment which lasts until late october.
from the moment you walk through the door you are confronted with an establishment that is a cross between an art shop, a retro antique dealers and a play school. this is the poorest excuse for a museum i have ever visited. in my opinion "don't bother!"
