Overview

When you walk into Davenport's, you know you have entered a classic pizzeria. Tables with checkered tablecloths are lit with candles, and from your seat you can watch your pizza being hand-tossed and prepared in the open kitchen. The pizza itself is classic thin-crust, cut into tiny squares instead of the traditional slices. Dine-in pizzas on metal pans are placed over candle holders to keep the pizzas piping hot. The usual toppings are available—pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, onions, mushrooms and anchovies, to name a few. The pizza is tasty but it is wise to order a larger size than your usual because it goes quickly. Take-out is available. Wine and beer are served.

Everything about this pizza parlor was amazing. The food, the people, the price was great. Its actually better than any other pizza place around in my opinion. I think everyone in the family would like this place.

Birmingham Tradition!by Yahoo | 2008-04-09 16:29:05 |

Jim Davenport's is a family-owned tradition in Birmingham that I have been enjoying for years. You can't beat the sauce, and of course I love the square pieces. Try it if you haven't already! You're missing out!

INCREDIBLEby Yahoo | 2006-12-21 20:37:41 |

I have lived in Italy and traveled around the globe but have yet to find pizza as good as Davenport's. It is by far head and shoulders above the rest!

best pizza in the worldby Yahoo | 2006-05-24 01:50:06 |

We love this place. It is a great local pizza place where you can watch them prepare the pizza with fresh ingredients. The service is good too. If you like thin crust pizza then you will love Davenports. Be sure to go hungry and I recommend ordering the large for two people. It is so good that you just can't stop eating it.

As a local, I love Jim Davenport's and go about once a month to satisfy a craving for it. Also, it's nice to go to a neighborhood place, not a chain.

The people were friendly and the food was great! It was a little hard to pick up the small slices that they cut the pizza into, but the taste of it was VERY good.

Great pizza...For those who don't like it probably like Gino frozen pizza rolls.. Just try it, like Mikey, you'll like it. Weekend, early evenings are usually crowded. 8pm til is best time to go.

I've been a customer of Jim Davenports Pizza Palace for about 30 years. When I first tasted their pizza I thought it was the best and now years and many other pizzas later I know it is.

Jealous?by Yahoo | 2005-07-11 02:48:28 |

I don't know what these other folks are talking about, but Davenport's is still the best in town! Great Pizza, unique atmosphere, a Birmingham establishment! I guess some folks just resent all things Mountain Brook. You can get a working class pizza at La Dama's though.

26 Bucks a pie! SURE!by Yahoo | 2005-02-27 17:57:10 |

I ate at this place last night and all I can say is WOW! The pizza is so amazing! It taste like pure heaven in you mouth. The way the cheese was all burnt really was the cherry on the PIE! Coupled with the great selection of Beer they offer you just can't go wrong. Who would think to have two lite beers on tap!? I mean it is just pure genius. Genius I say! I tell you if you in the neighborhood and are itching for some pie, go ahead and take out a loan on your house and head on down to Davenport's Pizza Palace!
