congrats on going toe to toe with starbucks and winning the "loser leaves town" grudge match. may you have years of success and profits.
i really like the club pannini. it has turkey, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and bacon on good bread with a herb aioli (mayo). also the brownies rock. i like the atmosphere and warmth of Lucy's. Keep on keepin on.
Lucy's is a great place to get a quick cup of coffee or tea. The shop is on the edge of the UAB medical center district, and is the only independent coffee shop within walking distance of UAB. (long live the independent coffee shop!). The atmosphere is fantastic - friendly staff (including Lucy!) and a good dose of local artwork on the walls. My only complaint is that the coffee doesn't seem like the highest quality (as compared to other local coffee shops in the area) and there are no fair trade options. But - even with the starbucks coming in next door - I'll be at Lucy's every time.
Good eats, great service, arty & off-beat atmosphere--what's not to love?? New soups are delicious & the later hours (open 'til 7)allows me to meet friends after work. (ok, you can do some work there, too, with the wifi.) Did I mention that Lucy serves the best cup of cofee in town?
i like this place very much. They serve coffee there, tea too, and sandwhcihes (I think).
Before the uber-corporate Starbuck's chain finally invaded metro Birmingham, there was Lucy's. An independent, owner-operated coffee shop, Lucy's is coffee the way it was meant to be done. Lucy herself prepares the coffee, and cheerily greets customers-- by name after not too many visits. Lucy has recently added a lunch menu of grilled panini sandwiches, homemade soups and excellent, fresh salads. The locals know Lucy's is THE place to get coffee, tea, and more; visit and find out why.
