This is the place to go if you need to gain weight! The cookies are unbelievable and you can't eat just one! The sweet rolls make breakfast the best meal of the day. Try the dinner rolls --tried to tell my company I had baked them but they wouldn't believe me. So GOOD!
I purchased 3 dozen cheese straws. When I got them home and we tasted them they were horrible. I called them the next morning and the manager asked me to bring them back. I took them back on my lunch hour. One of the employees in the front took them to the manager in the back, when he returned, he said the manager tasted them and said this is how our cheese straws taste. I told him I would like a refund, he said he would replace the cheese straw the the manager ate, but he couldn't refund my money. I left, but called the manager (Teresa) back to tell her what poor customer service that I thought that they had just displayed. She didn't seem to care. I may be just one customer, but they just lost one customer. If the owner is reading these reviews, he needs to do something about the empolyees.
I recently bought some cupcakes and the meltaways. Everything was excellent and I noticed the customer service seems to be getting better. There are several new faces behind the counter that are more friendly than the previous staff. I always ask for one of the managers, I think her name is Heather. She is super helpful.
I was placing my order to purchase sugar cookies.I over heard an employee tell another customer that the Raisin & chocolate chip cookies had been over cooked. But they were still in the case to sell to the public. I asked him had the sugar cookies been over cooked and he said "no they are great!" I made my purchase and once I made it to work, I tasted the cookies; they were hard and Tasteless! I did not go back because I should have done a taste test before leaving the store. I must admit that Savage's have not had the quality of service or food in a few years. If manangement has changed, you shoud let the public know. If you keep selling pastries like this, I'm sure your doors will not stay open much longer.
The up-front manager "Heather" was ok but the back manager was very rude and a B.... and that should be here given name. The two cakes purchased were suppose to be caramel cakes but were not. They were butterscotch and everybody that tasted them said it was not caramel. We returned both cakes for an in store credit which the manager wrote on both reciepts so we could come in next time to get another cake on the next occasion. We came back three weeks later on December 28,2007 to get another cake or cakes with the receipts and the manager argued that this was not the previous managers writing on the reciept and they did not make butterscotch cakes. I have purchased several cakes but those were the last ever from savages. I hope they go out business soon.....
I use to buy all of my cakes from Savages. I got a birthday cake for my mother and it was so dry. I asked them about it and they said that they were sent the wrong kind of flour and shortening. So I ordered another cake several months later and it too was dry. I still keep going back though just because of their icing. No other bakery can come close!!
They are so delicious! The cakes are so beautiful and the atmosphere is great! I agree with the previous post when they say that Savage's is THE place to get cakes in Birmingham!
Dry, stale cake seems to have become the norm at Savage's. Such a shame. Pastries are still good there, but it is definitely not worth the expense and effort of dealing with an indifferent staff.
I refuse to go to SAvages anymore because the staff is so rude. Customer service is defintiely not a priority with them. Cakes are ok but I've had better
We have always LOVED Savage's and used them for every event. Naturally we ordered my son's first birthday cake from there. The cake was DELICIOUS but very very ugly and they even messed up the lettering and wrote "Happy Birthday Turtle" on it. It was so embarassing. I ended up scraping the whole thing off. Also, they had described and agreed to a certain cake decoration and gave us something else entirely. My son's "Baby Cake" for him to eat had spiky plastic plants and very large rocks made of jelly beans. Not great for a one year old! This was NOT what we agreed on. The staff has been quite uninterested and rude lately. It didn't used to be this way. Although, I have to say that everything there is still delicious.
