Me and my wife had a wonderful time it was romantic and uncrowded and lovely
everything was dead, no life in any of the [plants. i expected to see a flourishing garden , what i saw was violent yobs, and dead plants!
This was a very serene place. And the gardens are actually quite pretty. In some areas even beautiful. It's not the best in the world but it'll do because it's free! If you complain even one bit, just remind yourself, it's free!! What I didn't like is the maintanance. Many flowers/roses were dead and I went in mid-summer. You will be doing a lot of walking here too so dress comfortably. Here's a neat tip: inside the Garden Center building, head towards the back of the building (towards the restrooms). Once you see the restrooms (on your left), take about 10 steps more and look to your right. A waterfall!! Which you can only access through here! Look closely . . oh my goodness, turtles in the waterfall! Just one more tip though . . have someone stay inside the building to open the door for you. They lock it sometimes! Overall I still think this is a must-see event in Birmingham.
I once spent 5 hours scouring the gardens during the "Itty Bitty Magic City Scavenger Hunt". My boyfriend and I found every single item and won a fabulous prize. Very nice place to go on a date, particularly with someone that you are already close to. I like to go on one of the first really warm days of spring.
