Great zoo for kids and lots of fun!by Yahoo | 2008-11-02 05:17:01 |

I take my child to the Bham zoo every week and we have a blast. He has learned so much from the staff and just being exposed to different species of animals on a weekly basis. The great thing for me is that it is not a huge zoo and this makes it easy to navigate and it is affordable. The zoo is in a transition stage after loosing it's elephant that had been there since 1950. Now they are creating an African exhibit that will hold 4-6 new elephants. Woo-hoo! Kangaroos have just been added and it just keeps getting better. This is not a huge zoo like the San Diego Zoo, but it is pack with animals and the staff really care deeply for them. Enjoy!

    Not as it wasby Yahoo | 2008-06-28 22:57:02 |

I remember as a child going to the zoo. I went back to the Birmingham Zoo for the first time in about 8 or 9 years and I was disappointed at what it has become. What kind of zoo does not have any elephants or bears. At teh Birmingham Zoo when animals die they do not replace them and sometimes companions are left in habitats alone and they look depressing. The aviary used to be alive with birds and a big pool of water below. Now only a few birds remain and the pool is dry and has a bad smell. Also, many of the ehibis were dirty and unfit for the animals. New exhibits are being built but i believe the existing ones should be refurbished as well and more animals are needed. Finally, the staff are a bunch of teenagers that volunteer and kiss inside the exhibit buildings and they do not know what they are doing. Please get people that have an idea on what they are doing. Until changes are made to the zoo I will not be returning anytime soon.

    Not impressedby Yahoo | 2008-04-25 12:50:16 |

Zoo wasn't kept up well. The glass on the inside exibits was very dirty. The zoo has no WOW factors at all. The zoo is very poorly designed and the lay out is horrible and confusing. We will go to the Montgomery Zoo next time.

    So sad!by Yahoo | 2007-06-23 00:09:29 |

I'm no PETA member, but I was appalled at the conditions here. The habitats and cages were small and dirty, the staff was not knowledgeable about the animals they do have, and their elephant just died alone in an unfit environment, even though they've had a free, long-standing offer to transfer her to a 2,700 acre elephant preserve in Tennessee for years. The admission is pricey, and there are no bears. I guess that's a blessing for the bears.

A very interactive zoo with lots of great animals. Exhibits were a little run down but not to bad. Very interactive zoo, kids got to feed giraffes cranes, also have a great avairy for birds to land on you and eat nector. Would recommend to anyone with children

    Fun at the Zooby Yahoo | 2007-02-28 21:42:03 |

I used to live there and whenever company would come with little kids, we always would go to the zoo. Its relaxing. You can see the alligators, monkeys, flaminos, etc. And when the adults are tired, go to the rest area, and take a sit, while your children go play with the peacocks that roam freely at the park. The petting zoo is amazing. Beautiful creatures! I rate the B'ham Zoo 5 Stars!!!

    Never again!by Yahoo | 2006-09-03 20:08:51 |

As a member of the San Francisco Zoo and having visited the Birmingham Zoo as a child, I took my family to the Birmingham Zoo August 19, 2006. The employees were extremely rude to us; the animals and their pens were dirty;we rented a stroller for our 2 year old and it had a flat tire. Needless to say we will not be back nor will we recommend the Zoo to anyone. What a disgrace. Joyce North

I love the Birmingham Zoo. It just keeps getting better and the animals are so amazing! The Zoo Staff is very nice and there are a bunch of Volunteers there who are always doing something to educate the public! Thier Wildlife Shows are awesome as well!

    I LOVE THIS PLACE!by Yahoo | 2005-03-23 00:38:16 |

Enjoy the zoo in Birmingham. It is not overpriced. And in a safe area of town. I love the sea lions, and how spaced out the park is, and right next to the gardens. I even bought a season pass.
