Overview

Situated on a very quiet street, a few steps from the Grand Théâtre and most of the city's monuments, this hotel offers a simple but comfortable place to stay. Chambers are soundproofed and all have cable TV with English and Spanish channels. Hôtel Studio has several nearby annexs, and the neighborhood has many Chinese and Indian restaurants like the Madura. Good value for money for such a central location.

***DO NOT STAY HERE***by Yahoo | 2009-09-29 11:56:39 |

An important note for anyone who is considering staying at Hostel Studio… If you are arriving in the evening, make sure you let them know the exact time you will be arriving, and if you are going to be even 5 minutes late, I'd advise you to phone them. We were coming from Paris, and I had stated that our group of four would be arriving at 20:00. We actually didn't arrive in Bordeaux until 20:20. I had tried to call at 20:30 to let them know that we were on our way, but there was no answer. By the time we got to the hostel, it was 20:45 with all doors locked, no lights on and no one answering their phone. On all documents and advertisements, it states that reception closes at 21:00. After waiting around for about half hour no one arrived and we ended up having to pay for another room at a slightly more expensive hotel up the road called Hotel Touring (which I would highly recommend – great location, polite and extremely helpful staff; and the rooms were spacious and clean and our group would definitely recommend paying the extra 10 EURO per night for a their rooms - Brilliant). The next day we were at the front door (with another couple who had the same thing happened to them) from 07:55 onwards as the reception was supposed to be open at 08:00. We waited around until 08:45 as we had to leave at that time for a tour. No one answered the phone or the door again. We went back later that evening around 19:00 to find the "receptionist" who after we started explaining the situation, told us that we were lying and that we'd arrived at midnight and not before 21:00. He told that it was impossible that we returned there until at 08:45 that morning because he'd served breakfast at 08:15. He also informed us that as we didn’t arrive at our specified time of 20:00, he'd left early to check on the other locations of the hostel which were around the corner – there were no signs stating this on the door with any other contact details, nor was the office line on divert. He refused to take off the deposit already paid through hostelworld, and then after quite a bit of discussion told us that "If only he had enough words in english to tell us what he really thought of us" which we all thought was extremely rude and disgraceful. He certainly isn't an asset to the hostel and if I were the owner I'd rethink my staff. Out of all the hostels I have stayed in over my several years of travelling, I have NEVER encountered a hostel with such rude and unhelpful staff nor one that closes well before the time stated on the sign out the front. When we finally got access to our rooms, they were not even in the building listed on the website but a good 250 meters down the road with no lift, and the rooms were extremely basic (bring your own towel as they supply you with a hand towel for your shower). If we hadn't already paid money towards the accommodation, we would have returned to Hotel Touring.
