Overview

Until 1965, Pierre's bridge in the center of town was the only way to cross the Garonne to Bordeaux. That year, construction began on a suspension bridge connecting Bordeaux Lac to Lormont, on the right bank. 679 meters long (2227 feet), the bridge allowed the river to be crossed from a height of 50 meters (164 feet). Traffic is often heavy, especially during evenings with the end of the working day. A second freeway bridge was opened in 1990 in order to complete the bypass and help mitigate traffic.
