This is a good choice for a reasonably-priced hotel in the heart of Boston. The furnishings are a little drab, but the room is a decent size and the beds very comfortable. Good central location.
We stayed because we went to the BoSox game. Were very excited to be staying so close to the park. I honestly can't understand how OSHA has not shut this fleabag hotel down! Mold growing on the ceiling, spots of who knows what on the top sheet, soap and shampoo of previous guests in the shower, etc., etc., etc. I could go on and on. And to think we paid over $200!!! I wouldn't even sit in the chairs and I immediately took off the bedspread and blanket- too scary to think about that! Very disappointed and would NEVER stay there again.
After reading the previous reviews, I was anticipating a bad experience. I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were clean and decent. Yes, it is an older motel and could use an upgrade, but it was functional. The staff was friendly and able to help with all my questions. I did not have a car, but had no troubles catching a cab right in front of the motel when needed. Plus, it's only a short distance to parts of downtown if you feel like walking. Be aware you are literally next to Fenway Park, so it can get noisy especially for a night game. I did not try the attached Chinese restaurant. All in all, a decent value for those cost-consicious travelers. I would stay here again.
Well We havent stayed there yet, but judging by the reviews, i would like to say that this hotel is not worth its money. I personally wouldnt even take it if it was free. The rooms stink The bathroom is not clean The pool give you a rash. THE END. THE HOJO is worthless
Boston was completely sold out. Since it was not a game night the Howard Johnson Fenway was the ONLY place in town with a room. Paid $217 plus tax. Pro - was they have WIFI. Just ask front desk for free access. Cons - Unfriendly and overworked front desk - had to walk to street corner to get a cab with 2 very large bags - Room was well worn. - Bed had a strange odor - tried not to think of what it could be Yes the park is right behind the hotel but I can't imagine getting a nights sleep on game night since the walls are paper thin (I could hear someone's coffee maker through my wall!)
if the ballpark was on the other side of town this place would be a soup kitchen. nasty is the only word to describe this place. Have you ever smelled the back of a tuna boat? that is the stink of the hallways. bed was horrible and about 35 yrs old. do yourself a favor and stay away from this place.
Going to a game.... great place to stay. That would be about it. The place is not clean, over priced and the staff is zero help. I have stayed there a minimum of 30 times for Sox games and will stay there again. With that said I stay elsewhere when the wife goes to the game. She won't stay there. Oh, the other plus is the late night chinese food from the on location restaurant. Not great but will do at 1:00am. The final plus is that the street vendors hang out their before games. They are the first to know if there is a rain out.
This was the first time my family and I went to Boston. It was my 13 year old sons dream to tour Fenway Park. We drove 7 1/2 hours to get there. Once we entered our room there was trash on the floor, you could tell that floor was not vacumed from the last people who stayed there. When I walked into the bathroom there was stubbles in the sink looking like someone shaved and they did not clean the bathroom. The toilet was like a public toilet and you had to push the handle up and out real hard to get it to flush. The T.V kept cutting in and out and the maid walked into the room without knocking the next morning. Not to mention we had to pay $20.00 a night (we stayed for four nights) to park in the parking lot when we were all ready paying $160.00 to stay in a filthy room. The bed was horrible, woke up every morning with a stiff back. The windows were old and need to be replaced. The pool area very run down with moss growing on the top off the roof. Thew lobby was nice. We will not stay here ever again next time we come to Boston we will stay at a better hotel and take a taxi to the park.
Yes it does need a little upgrading like the windows, drapes and carpeting but overall it was a decent place to stay. I've staied at much worse. Purfect location and staff was helpful with walking directions (since I didn't rent a car). Fenway is litterally right behind the hotel, a 2 minute walk! Which again, since I was going to a game it was great. Downtown area (where restarunts, theaters, malls, historical sight, and other sightseeing, a 20-30 minute walk) That part was great!
the air conditioner didnt work the first nite we got there,we got no help moving our stuff..the ice machine is in the basement, the service is really bad,the beds were never changed, and the floors vaccummd occasionally..strange smell in the lobby also
