Overview

Boston Common is America's oldest park in the heart of Boston, offering recreation opportunities and a glimpse into history through numerous monuments to the past. Designated as public space in 1640, British soldiers later camped here during the Revolutionary War. Part of the Freedom Trail, the park adjoins the Massachusetts State House and Beacon Hill. A favorite spot is the Frog Pond, which doubles as an ice skating rink. The park is the beginning of the "Emerald Necklace," a seven-mile (12-kilometer) string of local parks designed by Frederick Law Olmsted.

Not Impressedby Yahoo | 2007-06-14 20:39:45 |

It is very small and overrun by homeless people (but it's not dangerous during the day). Walk through it quickly and then spend more time in the Public Gardens across the street. I gave it a 4 on value only because it's free, but you will be asked for change constantly.

Consistantly great!by Yahoo | 2007-03-12 18:45:00 |

The Commons are an icon in Boston. To visit the city, and not pay a visit to the park would be an injustice. The gardens are lovely, squirrels are friendly, and the food vendors have the best park food ever! You really must see this park if you're in the greater Boston area.

I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. It was filled with litter and homeless people lying under the shade and over vents. It wasn't very impressive.

Vibrantby Yahoo | 2006-03-31 05:13:43 |

I had the opportunity to visit the park on a sunny day in the middle of the week. The entire mood was vibrant and relaxing. Many people out sitting on the grass and benches relaxing, and there were many joggers. Being it was early spring the park didn't have all the flowers and pools/ponds in use but it was still a pleasant scene, AND it was surrounded by a gourgeous State House with a golden dome not to mention other historic sites and the Beacon Hill neighboorhood.

nice way to spend a beautiful afternoon! The playground and duck pond are great for the kiddies, and the scenery is great! Lots of fun people watching, not to mention the starbucks across the street!

"Heaven On Earth"by Yahoo | 2005-11-22 02:29:58 |

The Boston Commons are the most picturesk place in the world. The Boston Commons are a place of sernity and traquility. There is so much to do in this sanctury. The Commons could be called an "oasis" in the otherwise hustle and bustle of THE GREATEST AND MOST CIVILIZED CITY IN THE WORLD : BOSTON, MA. When you are in the Commons ( my oasis) you are for a short time in another world. Don't get me wrong Boston and for that matter MA is another world compared to the rest of the USA. I love MA. I currently live in jersey but I have plans to move to Boston. I don't follow anything ny , I stick out like a sore thumb so to speak. People say I left my heart in San Fransisco, but for me I was reborn in BOSTON. I consider myself a Bostonian. I love the Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins. So in conclusion Boston (and MA) are truly a world of there (its) own.

Childhood Memoryby Yahoo | 2005-10-04 22:39:11 |

This place is one of the most beautiful and romantic place to be. The scenery is just like something you'd see on a tourist attraction brochure. Boston Common is one of the places, in my opinion, is something a tourist should see. Friendly people, beautiful scenery, why wouldn't someone not like it. I definately recommend this site to anyone and everyone. Every since I was young, I fell in love with this place. This place is definately a dream come true.

Best strating pointby Yahoo | 2005-10-04 15:18:40 |

Best starting point to walk boston. For shopping, downtown Crossing and Haymarket are just around the corner. For History, the State House and Freedtrail and Beacon Hill boarder the Common. The walk from Park staion Through the common and Gardens down Newberry street is great too.

Best place to spend a day.by Yahoo | 2005-10-03 23:29:35 |

You can spend the summer under the fountain, or skate in the winter. Best of all, its smack in the middle of Boston. What else could one ask for?
