great food and excellent service. friendly manager and the who checked on each customers aproval and opinion on their services. I recomend for any one passing through Prescott to try their REAL MEXICAN FOOD every other place can NEVER COMPARE! SERIUOSLY THE FOOD WAS GREAT!
Reading some of the other reviews, I wondered if we were going to the same restaurant! My family and I have been eating at Casa Alvarez for over a decade and are never disappointed. The food is always wonderful (especially the carnitas, the mojara frita, green chili, and flan!). The service is usually good (I will admit it's not always perfect but that's the case nearly everywhere!) I have never had a cold or poorly cooked meal and even though they say on the menu that they charge for chip refills, we have never actually been charged for one. I hope other readers will take a chance on this place. It's a gem.
Good food, big plates. A casual place to get full and relax. Great selection of drinks. The burritos can makes two meals and forget about the fajitas, which come with one skillet full on meat and vegetables, and another plate with rice, beans, guacamole, and sour cream, not to mention the warm tortillas.
My family and I were very disappointed by our recent visit to Casa Alvarez. This restaurant, which five years ago was one of Boulder's best, has became a horrible restaurant. When we visited the service was very unattentive, and the only thing I would give them any high marks for is atmosphere due to their creative displays of cactus with Christmas lights. Otherwise, the food was mediocre with little flavor or creativity. It is clear that the management is no longer as commited to this restaurant as when it opened, because overall the quality has diminished significantly.
Casa Alvarez is nothing more than a bar with some average mexican food. On a recent visit our meal began with our waitress spilling water on the table, which she never bothered to properly clean up (at least we had paper napkins to use). The food was average at best. A shrimp coctail, costing $9.99, was little more than a large glass filled with a few pieces of shrimp and water-downed salsa. A member of my group that had enchiladas was also disappointed, as they arrived cold and were of very low quality. Their service/management was definitely the worst part. For instance, the management tries to nickle-and-dime you for everything, charging $2.00 for a refill of chips and salsa, and $1-$2 to have guacamole or sour cream with your meal. The service in general was horrible, as our waitress only came back once at the end of the meal to give us our bill. She never offered to refill our glasses of water, only doing so after I went to the hostess at the front of the restaurant to request it. To make matters worse, they were not even busy, with at most 5 tables seated during our visit. It is disappointing when a restaurant can't even provide good service during their slow times, it makes you wonder about their service when they are busy. This restaurant is little more than a bar with mediocre mexican food. If you are in search of a good mexican meal, Boulder has plenty other other restaurants that are enthusiastic about serving you.
I love Casa Alvarez. I went there with my friend from Mexico and she loved it. Wonderful Authentic Mexican Food!! Try the "Carnitas" and thank me later :)...Yummm!!
I have eaten at Casa Alverez for years and love it. As a vegitarian I really injoy the Two Toffu Tacos or the Bean and Cheese Burrito. We have also held our Electric Vehicle club holiday dinner there every December for the past five years.
