Overview
Despite its central location, Margaret Island is extremely peaceful. In summer, it is popular with the locals who come here to relax. Rent a bicycle, jog, swim in one of two pools, throw a Frisbee or just stroll around. This was originally a religious centre. The ruins of St Margaret's Dominican nunnery are on the east side near the ruins of a Franciscan church. The water tower is a listed building. A very fine lunch can be had in the Ramada Grand Hotel at the north-east end of the island.Open Hours
Mo to Su from 12:00 AM to 12:00 AMGreat place for a picnic and a bit of peace and quiet. Can be fairly busy at weekends, but a must visit if you're in Budapest. Try a horse drawn carriage or a family bike, good bar/restaurant /casino towards the south end of the island.
I loved sitting by the fountain and listening to the classical music as the wind blew through my hair. It was so relaxing that I almost fell asleep on the park bench. There is also a track that goes all around the island. Budapest must be a safe place to be because there were young women jogging after dark. It had a nice feel to it but there's not a whole lot to do until the evening.
In 2000, I took a long run in Budapest, including up and down Margaret Island. It is the most tranquil, gorgeous oasis in the middle of that bustling city. A wonderful escape with gorgeous views of both sides of Budapest.
They have a great fountain that spouts to classical music. It's very beautiful and secluded once you get more into the island. The view was great and the old buildings were awesome!
The quietness of a hidden gem in the middle of a metropolis. A nature lovers paradise. The swimming facilities are of Olympic grandeur and a stroll along a paved path at the edge of the Danube is a superb event. A Definite Must Do at little expense.

We spent three days in Budapest it was one of the best city breaks I have been on. We did all of our travling by tube and tram. We went to see the Castle and walked around the scenery was excellent, We also went to The museum of Terror that was scary. We tried the Spa that was great it was like having a bath in the open air. We went to the Sinagog to see the tree that was built for all the Jewish people who were killed in the war, it was made of stainless steel and the leaves had all the names written on it. Very sad.. We went to Margrit Island hoping to hire bikes, but it did not start till end of March and we went a little bit too early. We ate out every night the food was great, we found fish, Italian, and Hungarian resturants. The hotel we stayed at was very nice it was the Atlas Hotel not the best area for walking around at night
Not only do you get the felling that you are the king or Queen of all the land but you get the most spectacular sites practicly all to yourself! If you don't go there you will never know how nature looks at its finest
BEST PARK IN THE CITY ITS LIKE BEING OUT SIDE THE CITY GREAT LOOP TO RUN AND GO TO THE GYM AND SWIM; NICE PLACE IN THE SUMMER
Margit hid is really wonderful place. If you like sport, there are quite a lot sport facitilies such as swimming pool, running path, cycling path, etc. If you just want to have a walk, you can walk around the island and you can see the beautiful scene along the Duna river. A lot of trees and grass... you can just walk around with your couple and kids and even have picniking there~
