Overview

An oasis of tranquility in the chaotic heart of Cairo, the Windsor was built at the beginning of the 20th Century as a bathhouse for Egyptian royalty. It served as a British officers club for many years before a Swiss hotelier purchased it and converted it into a hotel. The carpets are fraying and wallpaper peeling, but guests rave about its ambience of faded grandeur. Bogart would have loved it here, and the hotel and its famous Barrel Bar have appeared in many Egyptian and Hollywood films.
