Worth a Canberra visit for this aloneby Yahoo | 2008-03-22 07:17:22 |

I love going to the NGA. I visit Canberra once or twice a year, and often stay overnight just so I can visit this place. There are many different collections to see - last time I visited I saw some wonderful woven pieces and fabrics, including a 'map' of an Indian town made in the 19th Century, I think. Also saw the visiting 'Treasures from Egypt' from the Louvre, which was just wonderful. I think it is worth a trip to Canberra for this place alone. And when you need a break, you can go outside and wander through the sculpture garden (an outside gallery), watch the ghostly mists swirling over the water... gaze at the good burghers of Calais. Do go, if you have even the slightest interest in things artistic you'll almost certainly enjoy it and find some things to remember.

Incredible - Took our breath awayby Yahoo | 2005-11-24 02:33:49 |

It far outweighed our expectations and is one of the best musuems I have ever been to, especially as it it specific to Australia and the History of Australia. We learnt soo much that we didn't know. There is Fantastic coverage of the indigenous and white history of Australia, with incredible displays and artifacts. Even the history of the Hills Hoist and the Victor Mower are on Display! Another Huge wall disply covers the spread of introduced species accross Australia, covering time span and area. The revolving theatre took our breath away with its images of Australia and it's urban and rural history. We couldn't take it all in and can't wait to go back to finish! There is something for everyone. Kids can even design their own house and garden on a computer screen near the Hills hoist Display - and there is the history of Australian cubby Houses, with various cubbies for the children to play on and have fun with. Whatever you do, this is definately a MUST SEE.
