Overview

One of Cardiff's important cathedrals, St. David's was built as a Catholic church in 1887. Subsequently, it became a cathedral and seat of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cardiff in 1916. The structure was restored well after the bombing in the year 1941. Its stone towers rise above the shops and offices of the surrounding area. A notable feature inside is the organ, built by 'Father' Henry Willis who also built the organs at the Royal Albert Hall and St. Paul's Cathedral. Sunday Mass is 'celebrated' at 11a.m. The church is open for prayer at other times too and visitors are welcome to come in and have a look around.

Just a small correction to the content on the original page, as the Assistant Organist of the Cathedral for six years during the 1990's, I can confirm that the organ was not built by "Father" Henry Willis. Rather, it was a fine example of the work of John Compton. The Cathedral is well worth a visit, it provides a wonderful oasis in the midst of the bustle of the City.
