This famous and important temple dating from 1383 enjoys a prominent position in Chiang Mai, overlooking the city from its mountainside perch. It sits about 3,520 feet above sea level and is accessible via a steep naga staircase comprising around 300 steps. The temple has a huge golden chedi (spire), within which lie some holy Buddha relics that attract devotees from the world over. A walk around the grounds reveals a variety of colorful and fragrant flowers, and murals that depict Buddha's previous lives. Any visit to the city is incomplete without stopping by this temple.Open Hours
Mo to Su from 06:00 AM to 08:00 PMThis was really nice and I would like to have had more time to spend there. The Thia people are very active in their faith and they are very polite.
Really worth the trip. And there's a tram if the 309 steps proves too much. Of course, a tourist destianation as well as an historic temple.
beautiful gold and flowers. There is quite a few steps and you need to be in above average condition. You should dressed a modest manner. The buddhism Monks are not allow to touch or be touch by women.
this temple rocks...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!check it out..............u shouldn't visit in tourist season...be sure to look at the whole temple as there are a lot of things to discover...
A mistic visit, blessing from a Monk, ringing bells, walking around the temple all gave on a feeling of being part of the Temple experience. The view from the top is wonderful and the walk, or ride up is most interesting. If a person visit's Chang Mi, the Temple is a must see.
Holy place. So no shorts allowed. You can rent a "sarong" there. Excellent scenery. Take the stairs instead of the escalator....to view the "Twin Dragon".
GET READY FOR A WALK, LOTS OF STAIRS TO GET TO THE TOP. BEAUTIFUL VIEW FROM THE TOP ONCE YOU GET THERE. LOTS OF THINGS TO DO AND SEE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TEMPLE AND THE TOP. DEFINITELY WORTH SEEING, PUT IT ON YOUR LIST!!!!
certainly worth making a stop here to see such a treasure. There is a cable car to reach the summit so 1 does not have to be very fit to reach and see this attraction.
This temple is Chiang Mai's most important and strikingly visible landmark, with an exquisite copper-plated chedi topped by a five-tiered gold umbrella-one of the holiest chedis in Thailand. The temple overlooks the city and is 3,520 feet above sea level, with only the distance of 15 kilometers from town. You need to approach the temple grounds on foot by climbing a steep staircase of around 290 steps or if you wish, there is a service of funicular railcar.
As you will read everywhere... don't wear shorts to the temple. You will have a great view or Chiang Mai in many locations if you go after a rain. You will see only smoke if you come in the dry season. It is a good retreat on a hot day for sure. Plan to spend more time at the Queens Garden than at the temple.
