Overview

It is summer. You want ice cream. But you do not want to go into a drug store to buy it. No, you want the real thing. Then go out of your way if you have to, and get over to Bucktown to Margie's. Since 1921, Margie's has been making its own candy and ice cream, and it still uses only the best ingredients to produce the best product in Chicago. Family owned for three generations, Peter Poulos is now in charge of this quaint and charming operation, one that has withstood the brutal ups and downs of this neighborhood for over 70 years. Well worth a visit, even for the most discriminating sweet tooth.

AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS!!!!by Yahoo | 2008-07-22 22:01:25 |

This small shop is definitely worth the trek!!! If you take the blue line to Western you'll end up about a block or two away. We got there right before dinner 4-6 pm on Friday and we had absolutely no wait. We ordered the Jumbo Turtle Split and shared it (my husband, myself, and our 10 year old). It was absolutely THE BEST ice cream I have ever had! It wasn't too overwhelming or thick. And I think we polished it off in less than 5 minutes. Our bill was about $8 w/ tip and DEFINITELY worth it! This is one place that I will come back to if I ever find myself in Chicago again!

The absolute best turtle sundaes in the world. Nuff said. The place is a bit cramped and on summer weekends, you'll end up waiting and eating in a big hurry. It's still worth it. Look around and check out the really hokey old pictures and candy paraphrenalia. Take a few turtles home.
