Love it = www.chicagorussiansauna.com great sauna room - detox and cold plunge....great crowd, and best yet - BYOB
I went there this month after having read that it was recently remodeled. I'd hate to have seen it before. It's a dump. The sauna didn't work nor did the jacuzzi. The steamroom wasn't very hot and I could almost hear the bacteria having a field day. I was totally surprised by the condition and feel of the place. And, not in a good way. Save your $$.
THIS IS MY SECOND POSTING!!!! What happened here.....IT NOT THE ORGINIAL PLACE....Don't beleive what you read save your money!!!! If you don't beleive me read what WIKIPEDIA says about the new place..... They only have a steam room that was not working when I visited....and the dry/hot room....no whirlpool or plunge pools You pay $20.00 you would be better off going to a local Y and using their steam room!!!! Until they reopen the old side....stay away!!!!
Went to the Russian baths and it was a trip back into another time. On a cold Chicago afternoon a visit here was perfect. The staff was friendly and the baths were perfect to wake up the pores.
This place is a time machine. For more than a century an amazingly diverse bunch of Chicagoans have come here to relax and socialize (politicians, cops, gangsters, writers, intellectuals, buisness mogels, labor agitators, FBI Agents, Professional Athletes, priests, ministers, rabbis, Al Capone, Nelsen Algren, John Belushi, Philip Roth, Jesse Jackson, etc. etc.). The laid back atmosphere and high per capita body fat make it unlike any healthclub; and the cigars, vodka and wiskey make it unlike any health spa. A multi-generation traditon, my gradpa took my dad; my dad used to take me there and I'll take my son (waiting till he's maybe six or so). Relax. Bull-sh*t with your buddies. Watch a ball-game. Have: -a steam, -a cigar, -a massage, -a shot of wiskey, -a hot shower, -a shot of vodka. Drink in the laid back Chicago cool.
