Overview

For over 30 years, this has been a classic Loop watering hole for business people, students and the occasional tourist. Stop at the bar for a drink and salty popcorn, or stay for a satisfying lunch, which includes the usual selection of burgers, salads and steaks. Or skip all those, order a pitcher of beer, and split a pizza between you and your buddies. According to Exchequer, Roger Ebert, film critic extraordinaire, ranks Exchequer's pizza as his favorite in Chicago, and he should know.

Great Pizza and beer selectionby Yahoo | 2008-02-19 06:08:50 |

I come to the Exchequer Pub whenever I'm in Chicago. I was here the evening of Feb. 1 (first time in 9 years)and will bring the family back in March (we live in Kansas City). I first found out about this place back in the 70's when it was two doors away from Rose Records (later Tower Records, now closed). Get the deep dish pizza, but call in advance to order if you don't want to wait 30 minutes for it (or just have an extra beer waiting). Great service and wide-ranging menu if you don't want pizza. Can't wait for the return visit next month!

The primary reason I want to go back to Chicagoby Yahoo | 2007-06-09 20:23:36 |

I went to this restaurant with my family while visiting Chicago. We order two deep dish pizzas. I tell you those were the best pizzas I have ever had. Delicious! The atmosphere was casual and the restaurant was confortable air conditioned. I highly recommend it.

Hidden Gemby Yahoo | 2006-12-29 19:17:50 |

The Exchequer is a "hidden gem" in the heart of Chicago's loop. Great pizza (make sure you try the deep dish with sausage and giardinara) and ice cold beer. The owners make you feel like you're a friend, and not just another customer like all those corporate restaurants. Good service and a historic pub atmosphere makes the Exchequer my favorite pub/restaurant in the city.

Going to dinner at the Exchequer is like going home to a happy boisterous family that loves family. The menu has something for everyone at a good value, while the wait staff is attentive and friendly. I go every month and wouldn't miss it for anything. The burgers are my personal favorite and they have a very nice selection of beer on tap with something good always on special.
