Overview

You can't miss the John Hancock Center if you happen to be passing through the North Side neighborhood of Chicago. A 100-storey expressionist design with a glass façade, it is the third-tallest building in the city and the fourth-tallest in the United States. Being a multi-functional structure, it houses restaurants, offices and condominiums too. And while you are here, enjoy the panoramic views that it offers—take a trip to the 94th floor and discover a breathtaking picture of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. Talking telescopes provide information on the sites as you observe them, while an open-air sky walk allows you to experience the windiness of the Windy City from 1,000 feet up. You can also take a virtual tour of popular Chicago sights.

Excellent, but expensive, viewby Yahoo | 2009-04-27 19:31:13 |

The building itself stands magnificently in the skyline. It is situated in an exciting part of the city as the grand finale to the Magnificent Mile. The main attraction though, the Observatory, is more expensive than it should be as you're basically only paying for a round trip elevator ride.

AMAZING VIEWby Yahoo | 2007-12-25 05:18:54 |

AMAZING!!! everything about it was great. the view was amazing, you could see everything for miles in a whole 360 degrees glass wall. I wanted to go outside but it was just too cold. you can feel it swaying in the wind. It is kind of scary because it usually sways 4-5 in.

What a VIEW!by Yahoo | 2007-11-16 03:09:11 |

I have never been to Sears and this was my 1st time visiting the Hancock Observatory, I thought it was a bit pricy BUT I was wrong, there is plenty to see and do once you are up at the actual observatory, had I known there was a restaurant on the 85th I would have surely visited that! Awesome experience!

Dont Miss Itby Yahoo | 2007-09-03 13:07:53 |

Not very busy, no wait. Was a little expencise but I would get the city pass that they sell there and you will be fine. The ride up is quick and the views are great. Lots of fun, there is also a place to get drinks if you would like too. Ther is even a section were you can go outside on the observation level.

Hancock, not Searsby Yahoo | 2007-06-24 06:09:58 |

The top of the Hancock gives you the best view of Chicago..I wish more people knew this because it seems most tourists go to the Sears Tower. Its a shame. The Hancock gives you a great view of the lake too..the Sears does not. Its a 'must see' for anyone visiting Chicago!

Great Views Day and Night!!by Yahoo | 2007-04-14 00:03:29 |

It was a little bit cheaper than the Sears Tower and had amazing views! Plus you get the option to come back the next day for only $4, which we did, because the first time we went it was at night. GEORGEOUS!! So we went back during the next day.. Its funny watching all the crazy drivers from so high up. We almost saw a few accidents!

The best view of Chicago!by Yahoo | 2006-10-01 02:53:19 |

The view was outstanding! It wasn't really expense and a great thing to do with the family. Once you got to the top, you had things to do. I suggest get your picture taken cleaning the window self-picture set-up offered. You are gonna feel like a total idiot, but it will be so funny!

Breathtaking view of the Windy City!by Yahoo | 2006-09-22 05:37:17 |

I would say that the view from here is equally as breathtaking as from the slightly higher and more famous Sears Tower Skydeck. Admission is $2 cheaper, you have better views of Lincoln Park and Navy Pier, and you can capture a photo of the remarkable Chicago skyline with the Sears Tower in it, but the views of Grant Park and the Chicago River are not as good. I would recommend a visit to the observatory after sunset. The majestic skyscrapers and the city lights at night conspire to conjure up a magically romantic scene that you can only experience in a great world-class city.

Loved, want to go back :)by Yahoo | 2005-11-20 03:22:28 |

I loved the view from here. No matter where you walked to view was awesome. I would love to come back in any season, especially the winter. I was there in late September, it was a goregeous day. Loved everything. The pictures you have taken before you go up, when you see your picture it is beautiful. The price isn't bad if you buy the 4 pictures. Great value. Remember to take pictures from up there. They turn out great.

best view everby Yahoo | 2005-10-04 17:03:19 |

The hancock was the best ever. it offers a great view of the city.(you can even see some of Michigan) and not only is it a great view but it also offers a great breeze of fresh air from up in the sky, well that is if you go in the summer. two thumbs up always.
