Overview
While many Chicago cruise lines are corporately owned and designed with lavish amenities like on-board meals and in-house DJs, this cruise line offers a refreshingly simple, non-corporate and decidedly "unslick" presentation. Family-owned since 1935, the captain and narrator offer interesting tidbits on the city with dry one-liners. These low-key and no-frills cruises are an entertaining alternative to their competitors. Several different tours are available, and the boats offer partial cover. Cash only.Open Hours
Mo to Su from 09:00 AM to 09:00 PMI ordered tickets for the 2006 Venetian Nights fireworks tour and when the boat arrived I was in shock. 3/4 of the boat had a roof!! So if you were more than the first 1/4 of people in line you the only view of the fireworks where through plexiglass. Huge spiders came down from the ceiling to make it worse.
Having grown up in Chicago but now living in the Great Plains, I have learned to not take Chicago's skyline and cultural icons for granted. Anytime I host visitors in my hometown, I make certain to bring them directly down Lake Shore Drive to absorb the fullness of Chicago's Loop. There is absolutely NO better way to experience just how vast and beautiful Chicago is than taking a tour on the Wendella Boat rides. While researching information online about prices and times, I discovered a great deal that provided a 2 hour tour and wine tasting. Appetizers were provided by Buca di Beppo. There was plenty of wine and food for everybody. Space was not an issue, as the wine tasting generally draws much fewer sightseers than normal architectural tours. I recommend the Wendeall Boat Rides, and wine tasting event, to Chicago natives and visitors! The beauty of Chicago is unrivaled by any other American city. Still don't believe me? Take an excursion down the Chicago River and Lake Michigan to see for yourself. You too, will never take Chicago's skyline for granted again.
I recently took the 90 minute lake and river tour and I found it to be a great way to see the city and learn about it's architectural history. I loved it and would highly recomend it to anyone visiting the city. I've been to Chicago several times and this is the first time I've taken the tour and I'm so glad I did.
My husband and I love Chicago and wanted to do something different while we were there on our last trip. We chose to do a water tour of the city. This was a fantastic (and romantic) thing to do! The people at Wendella were friendly and informative. We cruised the Chicago River and went out on Lake Michigan and saw the Navy Pier up close and personal. I would recommend this to anyone looking for something fun and interesting and off of your feet!
This was a great boat ride for such a small price! I went on a windy day so it was much cooler so make sure you go on a nice or hot day and it will be perfect. We went all around the lake and I learned a lot about Chicago. It was a very interesting tour and it the last part was my favorite down the Chicago River. It's great for kids as well as adults so you can take the whole family. I suggest you ride on top so you can take in all the sights.
Wendella boat rides are an absolute must for visitors to Chicago. Cheap, informative, relaxing, fun -- on a clear day, the view of the city from this unique vantage point will blow you away.
Since 1993, during the Chicago International Congress of Architecture, we use Wendella for our students of architecture when visiting Chicago. We had been here again in July 2005. Economical, traditional, friendly river tours. Prof. Ciro Saito - Architect - Archigroup, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
My aunts, cousins and my husband admired the beauty of Chicago more after the Wendella tour. The tour guide (the person who do the talking) was very informative and funny, making the tour so interesting. It's NOT boring!
This is a great tour and great value, it's more economical than the Navy Pier Boats and show the same sites. It's really fun and the people are great!
