Overview
Towering 14,110 feet above Colorado Springs, this mountain serves as one of the nation's most famous landmarks. Access to the summit can be obtained via the Pike's Peak Cog Railway, or by driving the Pikes Peak Highway which winds through stands of pine and aspen before cresting above treeline. Katherine Lee Bates was so moved by her visit to the summit that it inspired her to pen "America the Beautiful." Bring a jacket as the temperature is about 20 degrees cooler up top.Upcoming Events Near Pike's Peak Cog Railway

We took the Cog Railway to the top of Pike's Peak. The ride was so beautiful! An hour of the best scenery! At the top the view was great and we even had snow in June! Just what my son wanted at the top! Besides hot chocolate and a doughnut! This was a great value at $81.00 for 2 adults and 2 children! If you don't want to drive the hairpin curves yourself, this is the way to go!!
shows an overview the picture was of pikes peak a good picture to show in the situation i liked pikes peak a very lot and i would die to to go agian ok mabey not die.
We drove up to Pikes Peak yesterday. Even in May, we weren't able to get to the top due to snow and ice. Were able to make it to the 16th mile, but the last three miles to the top were closed off. Still well worth the price of getting in. The drive is definitely not as nervewracking as expected based on all of the reviews here. The majority of the road is paved and where it's dirt, it's still smooth. While the roads are winding, the ascent is gradual. Roads are quite wide as well (not as narrow as I thought they'd be) and there are plenty of places to pull off to the side. The drive down is not hard on your brakes as long as you keep your vehicle in low gear. The views are breathtaking (literally in the thin air). You feel like you're on top of the world, and we didn't even make it all the way to the summit. Definitely worth taking a few hours to do should you be in the Colorado Springs area.
I think hiking is the best way, but the Cog is the easiest (and most expensive). Please note that you do not get to stay more than about 45 minutes on the top because the air is so thin that most people get light-headed after this amount of time. While the mountain views are the best on the three seat side, the big-horn sheep usually are on the two seat side and the view on the top is best on the two seat side so both can be good. Usually mornings in the summer are better because the thunderstorms roll in mid-afternoon. Also, call ahead for reservations as it is very popular.
When I went to Pikes Peak only 13 of the 19 miles were open. However, it was an amazing adventure and I will definately go back. I recommend stopping for all the views and take your time. If you drive, be aware that this is not for novice drivers. My 2004 Cavalier took Pikes Peak pretty well, so don't hesitate with a smaller car.
I recently went on a hiking trip up Pike's Peak with my unit. It took about 7 hours to complete the 13+ mile trip up Barr trail. The views were breath taking! Along with the solitude and peacefulness of nature it was definitely worth the cost, 0 dollars.
The trip on Pikes Peak was great! If you love seeing beautiful mountains and trees and great scenery - you will love it. Bring your camera for some awesome pictures from the top. We rode the cog railway. We were on the left side of the train (with 3 seats), and the views were much better there. I wish we could have stayed at the top a little longer. Don't waste your money on the donuts - they are bad.
The view is just spectacular. We rode the cog train up and back which was an experience in it's self. At the top when we got out you had to stand a moment and get your bearings. After that we were just fine. Standing on the top while looking out from the peak someone had came up and was playing the bagpipes, they played Amazing Grace which was just the neatest thing.
I was very impressed with the road on pikes peak. Looks like they are still trying to make improvements also. The view from the summit is like nothing i have ever seen. The family absolutely loved it. Yes the air is thin and even in july, a bit cool. I would recommend this trip to anyone who has never been to the Peak. The sight will leave you in awe. We will definitely return if we have the chance to do it again.
If you haven't been up to Pike Peak you are missing out..The view is something else..it will take your breath away..I don't like the drive up..it is very nerve raking..but once you get up there it is worth the drive.
