Overview

Copenhagen's most famous tourist attraction, the Little Mermaid sits on a rock overlooking the harbour. Created by Edward Eriksen in 1913 who was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale. The model for the Mermaid was dancer Ellen Price. The statue's head was stolen in 1964 and although police hunted for several years, neither the perpetrator nor the head were found. The head has been replaced by a replica but jokers still occasionally try to saw it off.

There are better uses of your time. Even though this is the #2 most seen tourist attraction in Copenhagen, please see something else. It's small and inconveniently located, and there are even nicer waterfront spots to see than this.

This place was my all time favourite to go to....night or day....it was always beautiful....ideal place for fresh air....if I felt down someday...this place would boost up my spirits....just a combination of fairytale mermaid...the ocean...the Queens palace nearby....and on and on...lots of history....I always visit den lille havfrue whenever I'm visiting DK...don't miss it....

The stroll from out hotel in front of the Palace to the Little Mermaid was wonderful. To see the Mermaid brought back many chilhood stories. Look out past the statue and you see many beautiful ships docked out in the water. It was wonderful, a must see for anyone visiting Denmark.
