I can only imagine that the management of this establishment spends more time faking reviews than he does actually doing his job. We came for a family meal and were cruelly subjected to his presence, his attitude was astonishing and to say he was arrogant is an under statement. although it seemed he was having a great night i can assure you he ruined ours. the service apart from that was good, the food was average and it was good value but i would never go back because of the management alone.
My sister booked probys for her husbands birthday just a little gathering of 4 adults 3 children i ordered the fish which was simply awful the fish was non exsistent and the sauce was soooo over powering I asked for my sauce on the side which i didnt get I called the waitress and she took my meal to the kitchen and disapeared The service is terrible it is not the waitresses fault the girls have no training and are not used to dealing with customers My husbands steak was tooo tough for him to chew We ordered a creme brulee and another type of dessert and trust me they were both disgusting The manager was asked for and he was completely useless How he ever got the Job GOD KNOWS NEVER AGAIN I called a waitress
We went to Probys Douglas last Saturday night for the early-bird menu and to our delight this was one of the best meals out we have had in any Restaurant. The selection was great with Starter, Main Course, Dessert and even a glass of wine all for 24.95 each, we will be back there again because value for money is hard to come by.My husband also enjoyed the selection of Beers and i had a beautiful Cocktail.Beautiful Restaurant and the staff were very nice.
We tried out the new Probys of Douglas at the weekend and found both the food and service to be exellent. The menu is extensive and there is something for everyone; also there is a full bar available there. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff were very pleasant and accomodating. Definitely one to try again!
We found that Proby's had an excellent choice of fish, we had the 'Turbot' and it was fabulous. The service was excellent, with very professional staff. The menu is varied and quite extensive with something for everyone, would highly reccomend this restaurant.
I had read some of the previous reviews but decided to give this place a chance. A small group of us had dinner here. Can I just point out that we are not fussy eaters. The food was awful. The menu is vast and obviously the chef is terrible. I could not eat my starter. I ordered buffalo mozzarella and beef tomatoes italian salad garnised with chorizo and pepperoni. I thought that was strange but it was only a garnish. I received a bowl of lettuce with salad cream garnised with a few slices of regular tomatoe with a tiny bit of something that resembled cheese melted on each slice of tomatoe with some pepperoni slices and chorizo on top. I just couldn't eat it. Our main courses were equally vile. I tried to eat out of politeness dried out tough monkfish wrapped in Parma ham. Four people ordered different fish dishes. They all came with the exact same congeled salty buttery sauce. One of the girls bit into her rolled up fish and it was covered in scales. Worse was to come.... One girl who is a chef discreetly went to say something to the waitress. Didn't want to make a fuss. 5mins later the supposed 'manager' came to our table and argued for 10mins about the fish scales even though he had no basis in his arguement. We didn't even mention the other food complaints. Thank goodness as he would have been there all night. He hunched down between the two girls as he was talking. Highly unprofessional. The girls were embarrsed but the rest of us were disgusted at his behaviour. A few minute later we noticed a table beside us sent a small bowl of chips back as they weren't cooked properly. He obviously intercepted the chips before they reached the kitchen as he returned to their table and proceeded to show them the chips and argue with them over a bowl of chips. He then vanished from the place so nobody was able to speak to him. Also they made a great fuss of opening the wine at our table and letting us tatse it then the 2nd bottle was plonked down in front of us opened already, definately corked but we really didn't want to make a fuss! All in all it was so tragic we had to laugh about it and especially at the 'manager' who was devoid of manners and common sense. Do not go here unless you have had the misfortune of having had your tatsebuds removed.
We had an office party in Probys recently and have a great night, there was 20 of us in total, we were even given a set menu at a set price from the manager a few days before we actually went, this gave us all an idea what to expect and they were really flexible with what we wanted. The Steak and Fish were the most ordered dishes and everyone in our group loved what they got. Douglas is a place where you expect a lot and this time Probys delivered with flying colours, we have even booked our Christmas party there before the rush for this starts, also we were delighted to be able to get a group booking of this size in a restaurant in douglas as the other places couldnt accommadate a group of our size without splitting us into to smaller groups. This restaurant is great and it will do well as long as the keep up the service and food they gave us.Oh yah great Bar 2.
Everything was just right and i will definately go back the next time that i will be in town.I will also recommend it highly to my family and friends who visit Cork on a regular basis.
I don't know what all the complaints are about. I was there last night and found both the service and food fantastic. The layout inside was lovely compared to Ecos where every table is nearly on top of each other. All of us got different main courses and desserts and everybody was happy. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Went to Probys on saturday night. was very busy and yet the staff were excellent and looked after us well. My wife and I both had starters and fish main courses which were both gorgeous. I'm thoroughly pleased there is a new restaurant in town to rival Ecos!! Only bad thing was the coffee which did not taste good at all!!Will go again though as it very reasonable for such great food.
