Overview
The Ogden Theater has greatly benefited from Denver's economic boom. Prior to 1995, this beautiful old movie house sat vacant along Colfax Avenue until a local concert promoter snatched it off the market, restored it to its former luster, and started hosting popular musical acts. Capitol Hill now pulsates with the latest in music, as the 1000 seat venue hosts a wide array of artists. Past performances have included the Smashing Pumpkins, Morphine, and James Taylor. the ogden is the best place in the world to see a punk rock/pop punk show, its so small and the area is just full of energy, its great. and if you dont want to be in the mosh pit or standing room, theres space on the sides, and balconies you can stand in, but if you go to a show, i would think you like the band enough to be IN the mosh pit....so all in all, i have yet to find a place better than the ogden theatre.....
If you don't mind standing in line for a couple hours, then standing through the whole concert, it's not too bad. Like the other FC reviewer, I was not expecting seats would not be available. Add to that the fact that the acoustics aren't that great and the overall experience left me kinda flat. Good thing the performances were awesome!
The Ogden isn't someplace I'll look to go again. The size is rather small which is great for getting a good view of the performers. But, you have to stand on the lower level and there are only bar stools (if you're lucky to get one) on the upper level. I understand that they just put in an extention on the upper level, which extends toward the stage; unfortunately they didn't think to angle it a bit so unless you are right on the rail and can lean out you can't see the performers very well. The Ogden is really a big bar with live entertainment. I just wish I'd known that before going.
Excellent Venue! Small enough yet big enough I will always check out who's playen at the Ogden. It is a perfect space for the more personable experience. You reall get to hear the music the way it should be heard. PUNK CHICK - from limerick, Ireland.
