Overview

Dresden's most beautiful square, Theaterplatz, is flanked by the world-famous Semper Opera House, the Zwinger, Gallery of the Old Masters, Schinkelwache, Residenzschloss Palace, Hofkirche and the Italienisches Dörfchen restaurant. Each building is a masterpiece and the effect of the entire ensemble is truly breathtaking. Visitors can admire a variety of architectural style, from baroque to Neo-renaissance by masters like Semper and Chiaveri. The centerpiece is a bronze statue of King John on his horse by Johannes Schilling. Locals and visitors flock to the square every summer for fantastic open-air concerts.
