Bushman
Jan 1st, 2009 to Dec 31st, 2009
Bushman is a gorilla. He was beloved for years by children of all ages at his long-time home, the London Park Zoo. Now he lives at the Field Museum. Still, stoic, and powerful, he awaits visitors with a gripping stare and a prideful stance.

Evolving Planet
Jan 1st, 2009 to Dec 31st, 2009
See the swampy origins of Chicago 300 million years ago, or take a look all the way back to the beginning of time-4.5 billion years into the past. This mind-boggling exhibit called 'Evolving Planet' chronicles earth's life cycles and the cycles of life that were in it. Dinosaurs, fossils, informative videos and hands-on displays will give you more than a peek into what once was and is.

Man-Eater of Mfuwe
Jan 1st, 2009 to Dec 31st, 2009
The largest known man-eating lion now lives in Chicago. The Field Museum invites its guests to stare into its man-eating eyes and get just a quick taste of the horror that so many eaten men must have felt right before this beast from Mfuwe delivered their demise.

McDonald's Fossil Preparation Laboratory
Ongoing
This is the Field Museum's on-site fossil prep lab. Here, actual scientists and/or laboratory technicians take raw, newly dug up fossilized bones and other fossilized organic matter, and prepare it for study. This means cleaning, scrubbing, buffing, and organizing. Museum guests are invited to watch this fascinating process - up close and personal.

The Art Lacquer of Japan
Jan 1st, 2009 to Dec 31st, 2009
Americans have been under the spell of Japanese lacquerware for generations. Even today, some sit transfixed in front of online auction sites, trying desperately to assemble the perfect lacquerware collection. Bowls, trays, vessels: it is all lovely and amazing. The craftmanship that goes into every hand-made little marvel is enough to impress even the most jaded viewer. And that is to say nothing about the specific artistic little details ascribed to each and every one. See the dragons. See the pastoral countryside scenes. See the cherry blossoms. See the dramatic characters. All on a delicate little lacquer object. The Japanese clearly have a deep understanding of the question 'Why have just a canteen, when you can have a canteen that is also a priceless, timeless work of folk art?'
